Psychoanalytic therapy utilizes insight and a unique relationship between therapist and patient to create change at a fundamental psychological level. It was created over a century ago and has been expanded and improved by generations of therapists from all over the world. By now there is a mountain of research attesting to its efficacy at inspiring deep, lasting psychological change and improvement in well-being.

Therapist and patient work together to explore the patient’s thoughts and feelings in search of underlying motivations and patterns that contribute to their current struggles. A deep, trusting bond is formed as the therapist helps the patient reveal and understand parts of themselves that they were previously unaware of or unable to share with others. They uncover how the patient’s past effects the present in order to develop new possibilities for living.

Psychoanalytic therapy is both exciting and challenging. Overcoming inner obstacles requires determination and an acceptance that there will be difficulties along the way. These include painful memories and feelings like shame, loss, sadness and guilt. Dedicated work in therapy rewards deep self-knowledge, confidence and freedom. It deepens our capacity for intimacy, creativity and pleasure.

Psychoanalytic therapy works best as a long-term treatment with no set endpoint. It is effective as a short-term treatment, however. The length and frequency of treatment can vary based on the patient’s needs, goals and preferences. Please contact me and we can figure out what would work best for you.
